Have you ever read Psalm 23? No Psalm is more memorized or quoted than Psalm 23, and often this Psalm is only quoted at funerals. It is the most famous of all the Psalms.
For 3000 years this Psalm has brought comfort to people. Augustin called it the Martyrs hymn because so many martyrs went to their deaths quoting it. Abraham Lincoln took comfort in this Psalm as he was weary of the Civil War. George W. Bush quoted it to a nation that was confused after 9-11-2001.
Psalm 23 was a Psalm of David and it’s simple enough that a child can understand it, but deep enough for a theologian to drown. It's short and sweet with only six verses, but is also very powerful. This is the mature David looking back over his life and recognizing how God has led him like he used to lead his sheep.
Check out this message as Pastor Brent discusses how it’s time we move Psalm 23 from tombstones and inscribe it on our own hearts.
