Many love forbidden love stories! Like when King Edward VIII fell in love with the American, non-royal, and twice divorced Wallis Simpson! Marrying her was forbidden, but on December 11, 1936, King Edward delivered a BBC broadcast saying he could not do his job as king without the support of "the woman I love."
Making a monumental sacrifice in the name of love, he then abdicated his throne as king of the United Kingdom in order to marry her! This became known as the “abdication crisis” as politicians did not know what to do at this unprecedented affair.
It was a case of forbidden love! Is interracial marriage also forbidden love? What does it mean to be unequally yoked? Let’s talk about it in this message at Arise as we continue our “Blackish: The Black Experience in America” series at Arise.
